MASTERTICS
This is the blog for the ITC subject in your Master. The idea is that this is a model for your own blog, where you will upload all your work. It is not difficult and it can even be fun!
I really liked the story about calligraphy and connecting the dots. We tend to think that everything we do has to be useful and has to have a purpose. But learning something just because you like it (even if it is not super useful right now) is just as respectable as learning any other thing. And sometimes, as in Job's story, it ends up being crucial in your future development.
Job's speech has a lot of interesting ideas that deserve to be pointed out; first of all he speaks about university and the importance people tend to give to it but actually this importance is highly overrated and people who did not study a degree can be very successful in life and do big things as Steve Jobs. Secondly, with the story of the caligraphy courses he is telling us that something you thought that would never be useful in your life then it turns to be crucial in your future. Finally, the most important idea he presents in his speech is that you must not give up doing the things you love even if things don't turn out to be as you expected because to do a great work you have to love what you do; moreover, time is limited so follow your intuition and your heart and enjoy what you do every single day.
The speech of Job is motivating and there are interesting ideas to be considered in the three stories told. My favourite point is that loving what you do can be your driving force for change and to face life difficulties.
These ideas are linked with the education field. We must contribute to encourage our students to be decisive, creative and to take risks. They must be able to manage failure and and to follow their intuition and heart when fighting for their dreams. They must be aware of the value of time and how to use it wisely! There is nothing useless to learn if it's motivating and meaningful for them!
I want to highlight that Steve Jobs never graduated from college but he was a very important figure for the evolution of technologies and ICTs. What I want to emphasize is that the university - having a university career - cannot be used to measure the intelligence of people. I consider that Jobs has been part of the history and part of the evolution for his achievements with Apple and however, he did not receive a university education. To conclude with this comment I want to share the idea that each one has to study what he/she likes and dedicate himself/herself fully to it. We must fight for our dreams and never underestimate our abilities since each human being has different abilities.
What I think Steve Jobs means with this speech is that you should never be influenced by people around you, what people say that is the best option for you, and so on. As he points out, he never went to university and never studied a degree, however, he became one of the most successful men on earth. With the caligraphy story, I think he tries to express that if you really want to do something, you should just do it, no matter what people thinks. Steve Jobs is probably the most important entrepreneur of the last decades. What he says in this speech is what we should tell to our students. Believe in yourself and your own ideas, be constant and hard-working and you can achieve anything you can imagine.
The speech of Steve Jobs is basically about life: success, failure, death and love. With his first story he tries to demystify the idea that many people have about college as the best and only option in order to have a good life, and actually, there is no guarantee about that. He advises us to do what we love and what makes us happy, so we don’t have to be afraid of taking different paths and also to not to waste our time with things that we are not enjoying because life is limited and. “Love what you do, keep looking, don’t settle”.
There is no such thing as "DESTINY". We are the ones who make choices and those choices are capable of changing our lives. We must take advice into consideration but our interests and desires should always go first. Success is not for those who study a lot, but for those who work hard and believe in their dreams. As he says, he tried to follow his dream, and college was not in the way so, let's stop being afraid of breaking rules and start living, creating, dreaming!
Job's allusion to failure and his attitude towards it is what strikes me most. Through his speech he encourages the listener to take failure as a step closer to success. With his personal life and career examples, he suggests the idea of embracing it to learn rather than taking it personally. In fact, he insinuates that the only way to achieve success is to go through failure. Unfortunately, the reality is that many people feel defeated when they fail but this is partially also down to culture and how we learn to confront it.
What I admire about Steven Jobs is that, even though he went through very difficult situations, he always kept a good attitude and tried to move forward. I think that, when something which we believed in goes wrong, we doubt about our "destiny" and our abilities. However, we should forget negative thoughts, focus on what we want to achieve and keep working until we get it. I believe that this speech would be particularly inspirational for people who have have experimented some type of professional failure.
This speech is really inspirational and above all, when this kind of message is given by an influential person such as Steve Jobs. The deep reflection that we can make about it is that we must looking for our tue passion in life, fighting for it, being tenacious and, of course, never giving up. We never must lose hope because, although the way is sometimes difficult, the most likely thing is that we'll go trough, if we keep trying. Steve Jobs is a clear example of the fact that we can achieve whatever we desire if we fight for it. Besides, we can't never forget that someday we won't be here and at the end we must be proud of the decisions that we have made in life. The whole thing is summed up in two words: carpe diem!
Every single one of our life experiences has a meaning. We may not realize it, just like Steve Jobs didn’t realize that learning calligraphy would be useful in his future, but it is true. Every choice, every mistake, and every decision that we take is important and shapes the way we are and what we can become. Instead of worrying about failure, we should learn from it and work hard to improve ourselves so that we can achieve our dreams.
Such a motivating speech that makes you have a look back in your life and a reflection on your present situation! Living someone else´s life, wasting the precious and limited time we have is the moost common error we usually do in our lifes. What could make us different, happy and successful, is following our curiosity and intuition.
Graduating from the university does not guarantee you will be doing what you love the rest of your life. Most of students choose what to study, what to become without actually knowing it. We are too young when we do it. We have to live the life first, try things, fail in some and succeed in others, and after that decide whether we want to graduate or not. Graduating from college is imposed by society, that's why parents insist on it. Steve Jobs has proved that one can succeed in life without any Diploma, but by following your intuition and your inner voice.
This is not the first time I have seen this video and every time I see it I take something different from it! This video Inspires me to not focus on what society dictates one should do but focus on your personal objectives and what moves you! If you are not happy with something change it! I think Steve Jobs life is a perfect example of focusing on who you are and staying true to yourself and your ideas to be able to better yourself, accomplish whatever you want and be happy in life whether that means being a billionaire entrepeneur or being a carpenter.
I love how Jobs give all of us a lesson. Especially in relation to College! Not because you have high studies you are better than the ones who haven’t. Not because you do not graduate from college means that you are not going successful. I think we should show this video to many people as a way to stop the ‘titulitis’ we are suffering in Spain. It also inspires me seeing the capacity of resilience Jobs had, I think it is quite clear why he became who became, he did what he loved and he did not waste time doing what others want him to do. This is the perfect video to watch when you are facing difficulties in life!
I believe that Jobs's speech has very important life lessons that he transmits through something very simple and very useful, his own story, his own life. The first is that we should never try to find usefulness to everything we do, because sometimes we will not find it at that moment. It will be the maturity and perspective that gives us the trace of time when we will see that everything done it makes sense now. The second is that when something does not go well, we must not give up, but keep working and fighting for what we believe in until we achieve it. Last but not the least, we always do what makes us happy regardless of the others' opinion. Life is ours and we have to live it as we want .
Therefore, I believe that these three simple ideas that Steve Jobs transmits in this inspiring speech summarize very well a way of life, his way of life. Always work for what you believe in being always you.
As Steve Jobs, I had no idea of what I wanted to do with my life when I was young. I decided to study a degree in which I was not really interested in order to fulfill my parents expectations but ended up dropping out from university after the first year. I trusted that somehow, it would all work out Ok. That decision took me to the place where I am now. During the next six years, I worked as a store manager and later graduated from university with a degree in English studies. Following my interests and intuition, I made my real dream come true. If I had never dropped out from university at first, I would have never been able to discover that what I really wanted to do was to become an English teacher. As Steve Jobs did, I trusted that the dots would somehow connect if I followed my heart in every step. Failure and loss are part of the process we have to undergoe in order to be able to appreciate what we have, need and value. If we love what we do, there will never be enough barriers to prevent us from accomplishing our goals. If we can't escape death, we might as well "stay hungry, stay foolish". Thanks Steve for such a great speech!
I loved Steve Job´s speech because it is quite motivating and inspiring. I think it is very important that we find what we love and go for it. On the contrary, we will probably regret doing things we didn´t want to do when it´s too late to change things. We must encourage our students to follow their heart and intuition and not to do what others want them to do. They should never give up because of some mistakes or failures, but learn from them.
I found Steve Jobs's speech deeply inspiring, specially, the dots theory, since it sends a beautiful message: your future is somehow connected by some dots, so you can trust them when making personal decisions because they are connecting your road, and therefore, this will give you the confidence to follow your heart. In addition, his second story also sends an encouraging message, which can be summarised in a sentence: no matter if life gives you lemons, don't give up and don't loose faith in what you love. Such a wonderful slogan! It is very comforting to know that even one of the most succesful men in the world had bad streaks.
Jobs’ examples show the importance of being ourselves and achieving our personal aspirations. As he illustrates in his examples, life is not unidirectional and there may be a number of possibilities for reaching an objective, or a number of consequences of making a specific decision. Therefore, we should try to do what we really like instead of letting others decide for us since, while there is no guarantee that what others say to be adequate for our future will really be, Jobs states that we will always know whether we are doing something we like or not.
Job's speech tries to show us an important message: find what you love and do it. It dosen't matter how many difficulties you may find on the road. What is important in life is to follow your dreams and never give up. We shouldn't be obssesed with having a job or a degree who is well considered in the eyes of society. What we should do is to devote our lives in doing what we are passionate about. Real success is doing everyday what you love.
Steve Jobs' speech could be very inspiring for our students, especially for those who don't know what to do in their future. In my opinion, the most important message in this video is: look for what you love and devote your life to it without paying attention to other people who want you to give up, this will be your real success.
Steve Jobs was and will always be a great mentor for those who did not or do not what to do or what to become in a short-term future. He showed that we do not need to rush in order to decide on a studying speciality. Many people still think that graduating is a synonym for success, but they are wrong. You do not need to choose a degree mandatorily to fulfill your life, but great manners and moral principles. Without them, you are nothing as a person. And even if you follow something which you thought that you really wanted to do and it resulted in the opposite, feel free to restart and keep seeking for your goals and ambitions as Jobs' did.
This is an incredibly motivating speech that reminds all of us of the fact that our time is limited and we shouldn't waste it living someone else's life. This speech emphasizes triumph over adversity and it encourages us to follow our heart and not settle. His experience droping university also shows us that the worst thing that could happen apparently might turn out to be the best thing that could happen. We should trust our inner voice and focus our attention on what really matters in life.
Jobs' speech on this video is very encouraging. He makes the point that making mistakes actually happens but, even though at the moment it may look like a catastrophe to you, you should not give up. In the future, that awful mistake you made can become the stimulus you needed to improve your chances for something greater. I believe that the moral os this video is "do what you love to do, because it pays off in the long run".
In this speech, Steve Jobs is quite impressive, as he usually is. There is no need here to remember the career and the path followed by Steve Jobs, that speaks for itself. This speech, along his career can be very inspiring not onvly in the context of the EFL classroom, but for everyone in general.
Curiosity and intuition should definitely be two of the most powerful guides in our lives. I've been following my gut feeling all my life and will certainly keep doing it!
There are many things that could be hihglighted about Steve Jobs' speech, but the ones that really cause an impact is the perspective of life he had. To live your days fully and with passion only lead to great things, and that's why we have to pay special attention to the students' personal needs in the EFL classroom. It is important to foster that passion and motivation to learn a foreign language, hihglighting that they will see the results during the process, but mainly in a future, as people normally cannot see the success when looking backward. Finally, it must be pointed out the way Jobs believes that people need to stay hungry and foolish, to be curious about everything that involves in order to question ourselves about our own beliefs and realities.
Steve Jobs was a person who changed the world through his ideas. Nevertheless, not only his ideas caused a big impact, but also his way of acting, his continuous curiosity and the will to go further. He created a company, he designed and released important gadgets and products. But all that stuff was a reflection of her qualities and manner of acting. And this is speech is a perfect way to understand his mode of action, which we can resume in two words: curiosity and inspiration.
Steve Jobs's speech is very inspiring not only for graduate students, but for everyone. We have both the power and the duty to try to change our path whenever we feel that something does not lead to happiness. All those decisions will finally steer us towards the life we have always dreamed of.
